TWG

Vicky wanted to have high tea with me on one of her off days so she asked me to come along. We first went to TWG Tea Company before heading to Lady Marmalade. We had our high tea marathon that day.

I love those restaurants enclosed in transparent glass coverings, very elegant indeed ! When we first went in, we were greeted by many male servers. They took our paper bags and store it away as there was not enough room on our seats for it. Our table was close to the other table. I felt that it was a very “squeezy” situation.  The server helped me pull out my chair and waited for me to sit before pushing it back in. They had extremely good service and bothered to explain their signature teas and the high tea sets we we were considering.

I had the Pink Flamingo Tea (3rd picture) while Vicky got the Sweet France Tea (Left side of 2nd picture).

Pink Flamingo Tea (Complimentary with the high tea set) consists of green tea with crimson hibiscus blossoms. The melange infuses, which gives the tea rose colourings. Vicky does not like it as it has a pungent smell. She prefer hers to mine. I found my tea smells very bad as well but the tea had a pleasant and fruity taste.

Ratings: 3/5★

The Sweet France Tea (SGD$11) has a blend of green tea with exotic flower and a touch of chamomile. This makes the tea fresh and soothing. I had forgotten the taste of this tea. Therefore, no ratings given.

1st picture – Our high tea set – The Royal Set (SGD$32). Sadly, it is only two-tiered, unlike the high tea sets I have in Canada. The set consists of a teapot of tea of your choice, 3 mini sandwiches and a dessert of your choice.

2nd picture – The bottom tier of our high tea set, which is a really not worth the value.

3rd picture - The special cake of the day. We decided to choose the signature cake of the day at the cakes display at TWG. It tasted heavenly. It is a blend of white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake with a tiny layer of jelly at the top. There are some raspberries at the side for garnishing and taste purposes. The cake is also made with one type of tea but I totally forgot which tea it was. The cake is the best item amongst the high tea set.

4th-6th pictures – We shared the pathetic little shrimp sandwich. The sandwich comprised of prawn with Silver Moon Tea infused cream in it – not as fantastic as it sounds but way better than the tomato sandwich.

Ratings: 2.8/5★

7th picture – Another sandwich that we shared – the miniature tomato sandwich. It is roma tomato topped with moroccan mint tea sauce. Dread consuming tomatoes but this is one of the better quality tomatoes I have ever tried.

Ratings: 2.5/5★

There was another sandwich that I did not get to try is the smoked salmon sandwich because Vicky gobbled everything up. It consists of smoked salmon, mascarpone and chives. She rated it as average.

The total bill came up to SGD$50.60. including 7% GST & 10% service charge. It was crazy paying such high amounts for one set high tea with 2 cups of fine tea, mediocre sandwiches and a great dessert.
