#55 what is a bonchaz?
i have been passing by bonchaz lots of time and hearing lots of raves about it before but never actually went there to grab anything. however, fine and i decided to study together and stay over at gastown’s 24 hours blenz. we covered a lot of work and kept dozing off every now and then until we were woken up by the cashier as we were not allowed to sleep in the cafe. studied for awhile more before we left and had breakfast at the bonchaz just across the street.

i thought it would be something more fancy but it isn’t. the place is way too laid back and the cashier has an attitude to spare. she was very unwelcoming and unfriendly, which is evident through her cold expressions. there are board games offered for about CAN$2+ per game.
FOOD
1st picture – i got the 12 oz soup of the day (vegetarian), which cost me CAN$2.95. fine, on the other hand, got the 24oz soup of the day (curry). we both agreed that the soup weren’t served hot as it was just warm. the soup is spicy but it is not as concentrated as it should be. i am not impress with the standard of soup for such a highly raved cafe.

2nd picture – my mind was all over the place when i was ordering as 1) i am so lethargic from the lack of sleep 2) it was my first time at bonchaz and i did not know what to order. thus, i just pointed at the roast beef sandwich on the menu and made my order. that cost me CAN$4.95 but i did not take a bite of it and decided to take it to go.
i ate the sandwich a little later and i was taken aback by it as well. the beef was really dry but the sandwich was rather filling as it is such a huge portion ! i’ll buy this over subway anytime !

3rd & 4th picture – fine let me try her banana walnut bonchaz (CAN$1.75) and i really love it heaps !! it was banana walnut with coffee icings and it makes you crave for more. so, i decided to get my very own chocolate truffles bonchaz (CAN$1.75). the inner filling of the chocolate filling melts in your mouth and the coffee coated on the exterior compliments it.

basically, i cannot draw any real conclusion about this store yet as it is only my first time and i was in a foul mood !! so i will be coming back again to give my first experience the benefit the doubt.
