#3 cheesy cheesecake [EDITED]

Posted by swisscheese on March 24, 2010 in bellevue, cakes, cheesecakes, pasta, richmond, seattle, vancouver |

I really had it with lots of people who take my friends for granted. I seriously cannot tolerate girls who treat guys as backups. The dreamy guys are their beck and call. I guess they will have their karma soon since life is never this easy. However, guys will also be at mischief at times. I heard about the Jack Neo scandal from Aud and my father & I cannot believe that he had so many affairs !! I saw the dramatic press conference too and the paparazzi seriously pissed the hell out of me. Guess it’s their job eh ? Oh well, people tend to stray, don’t they ? So who am I to judge ? Nobody’s perfect anyways !

Anyways, life’s too short to waste it on minor issues. So we should make the BEST outta it by having CHEESECAKES !!

Breka Cafe

6533 Fraser Street Vancouver, BC V5X 3T4 - (604) 325-6612

An ordinary 24/7 cafe near my neighborhood.  I used to study there till late nights or early mornings when I was still studying in Langara College. The cheesecake they had is only CAN$2 – $3. Considering that they don’t specialize on cheesecake, it is understandable that their cheesecakes are just average. The cafe is especially crowded during exam period and there are a small handful of weirdos around in the evenings or nights.

LOVE Breka as it is open 24/7.
HATE Breka as I don’t have a safe feeling when I study there alone.
Thus, I’m giving it 2/5

True Confections
1) 866 Denman Street (at Haro) Vancouver, BC Canada, V6G 2L8 – (604) 682-1292
2) #6 – 3701 W. Broadway (at Alma) Vancouver, BC Canada, V6R 2B9 – (604) 222-8489

Initially, I loved having my desserts here but on second thoughts, CAN$7 – $9 for just A SLICE OF CAKE, SERIOUSLY ?! That’s absurd ! Of course, people claim that “ The quality you get is what you paid for ” but hell NO, not according to my tastebuds. The cheesecake is kinda cheesy so it’s definitely NOT my cup of tea. However, there are plenty flavours of cheesecakes so feel free to take a pick if you happen to love cheesy cakes.

In conclusion, I feel that the cakes served here are OVERRATED, with a capital ” O ” !
I’ll give it 2.5/5

SWEET OBSESSIONS
2611 West 16th Avenue Vancouver, BC V6K 3C2 – (604) 739-0555

I have to say that ” Sweet Obsessions ” has practically the same standard as ” True Confections “. The price, texture and size says it all. It is CAN$29 for 6″, CAN$44 for 8″ and CAN$69 for 10″. See the CAN$20+ difference between 2″ ? The cheesecake is even more cheesy than the cheesecake as ” True Confections “. I did not even finish my share of cheesecake during the event held.

Plain, dreadful and every other negative connotations associated with it.
Hence, I’ll give it 2/5 only for the cheesecakes.

Cheesecake etc
2141 Granville Street, Vancouver, BC V6H 3E9 – (604) 734-7704

When I first tasted my chocolate truffles cheesecake (left), it was indeed mouth-watering. However, as I ate more of it, the taste seem to have deteriorated. I guess I could feel the cheesiness after that. This is pretty edible though I am unable to finish it. Cheesecakes range from CAN$4 – $6.

LOVE Cheesecake, etc for their presentation and exotic flavour such as chocolate truffle cheesecakes.
HATE Cheesecakes, etc for the cheesy taste of the cake and the short operation hours.
I’ll give it 3/5

Cheesecake Factory
bellevue

I was very stunned when my sister surprised me with a 6″ fresh strawberry cheesecake from Seattle. It was my virgin time trying the overly-raved cheesecake from Cheesecake factory. The fruits are fresh and the taste of the cheesecake is a little like the cheesecakes of Yavis Cheesecake Club. However, I did not eat the cheesecakes in America myself so I do not know the fresh taste of the cheesecake. It could have been better , who knows ? The packaging of the cake is really appealing and the cheesecake taste even better when stored in the freezer.

I think I should try more of their cheesecakes the next time I head over to the States.

I’ll then give it 4/5

fresh banana cream cheesecake

mike bought me the banana cream cheesecake when he went to seattle the other day. i was so hungry before i ate the cake but only after a slice of cheesecake, i was really bloated. the cheesecake was so creamy and soft that whipped cream is not needed at all. real bananas provided are of great compliments. i prefer the strawberry cheesecake over the banana cheesecake anytime !

seattle

i was really excited when mike took us to cheesecake factory cos it was my first time there and boy, was i stunned ! the restaurant is HUGE !! the interior design of cheesecake factory looks exactly like hotel settings. it took us 15 minutes to finally get seats at around 5-6pm on a monday evening. the servers were extremely friendly and did not chase us out of the restaurant even after we have made our payments. we took our time to chill and being the indecisive me, i went about to buy a cheesecake to bring back to vancouver yet the waitress did not show any sign of irritation or anger.

stefanies red velvet cheesecake

the red velvet cheesecake we agreed on sharing was the featured cheesecake of the month. it is limited edition. jason found it unique. mike found it really good. fae thought it was delicious and i found it totally divine !!

this cheesecake was said to be inspired by the winner of ” what’s your flavor ? “. it has many moist layers of red velvet cakes with creamy original cheesecake and cream cheese frosting. the side of the cake consist of white chocolates.

pasta carbonara / steak diane / crusted chicken romano / four cheese chicken pasta

i had the pasta carbonara. the portion of all our food except for jason’s steak diane were enormous. even a foodie like myself could not even finish the entire dish so i packed my leftover back to vancouver. i felt that there were little parmesan cream sauce compared to the amount of pasta served. also, with just the smoked bacon and peas, the dish felt a little empty without other meats. i should have ordered the chicken for an additional US$3.

jason ordered the steak diane but he felt like he didn’t have enough until he ate parts of the red velvet cheesecake.

mike had the romano and fae had the four cheese pasta. i didn’t have much of an impression of those pastas as i don’t quite fancy tomato sauces.

the bill came up to a whopping CAN$79.81, as you can see from our picture !! i would say it’s not as expensive as what everyone thinks. this is because the serving size of a slice of cheesecake and all the other savory dishes are gigantic. totally worth your every penny !

DIY cheesecakes

Whatever it  is, I feel that it is BEST to bake your very own cheesecakes !! In this way, you will be able to know and control the amount of sugar and fat content in it. On the left picture is an oreo cheesecake made by Vicky & I and on the right photo is a strawberry jelly cheesecake done by Kath.

I’ll write up recipes in a separate entry when I have more time on my hands. For now, I’ll just leave it as it is. Hope you guys don’t have much cravings for cheesecakes during wee hours of the morning !
